A quest that can taste of betrayal
Article Abstract:
Adoptive parents can experience very mixed emotions if their children decide to seek their natural parents. They can sometimes feel very jealous, and may also experience feelings of rejection. Most commonly, they feel that they may be replaced by the child's natural parents and that they will no longer be valued. However, research indicates that most adoptees who decide to trace their natural parents are not at all unhappy in their adopted family. They generally feel a need to meet their natural parents in order to help with forming their own identity.

'After 28 years, I immediately felt he belonged.'
Article Abstract:
Carole Thomas recalls that it was extremely traumatic to give her baby son up for adoption in the late 1960s when she was 20 and unmarried. However, she hid her grief from the two sons she had subsequently. She was nervous about meeting him when he eventually made contact with her, but immediately felt a sense of him belonging. He believes that contacting his natural mother was the only way he could make himself feel complete.
