A sweet suite to suit all sorts
Article Abstract:
English National Ballet Artistic Director Derek Deane feels that it was appropriate to update the ballet 'The Nutcracker' in some aspects. The company has been performing this ballet at the Mayflower theatre in Southampton, England, and will shortly bring it to the Coliseum in London, England. He believes that the company has a strong future at the Coliseum, despite government plans to make the Royal Ballet, the Royal Opera and the English National Opera share Covent Garden. He is very critical of current uncertainties at the Royal Opera House.

Bound but not gagged
Article Abstract:
There has been a clear shift in contemporary dance over recent years towards pieces which are safe and 'accessible,' according to Australian choreographer Lloyd Newson. He regards himself as not being part of this trend, with audience satisfaction not being his main priority. His latest piece, 'Bound to Please,' makes demands of the audience and is not mere entertainment. It aims to undermine the success of his previous work, 'Enter Achilles,' which he regards as a populist piece.
