A wealth of options
Article Abstract:
Retired people who hold a share portfolio must ensure that they use up all their capital gains tax allowance for each tax year. Consideration should be given to disposing of shares in companies exposed to volatile market conditions, and financial services companies should be adequately represented in the portfolio. Retired people who wish to avoid being a burden on their children as they become older may want to purchase a long-term care product. Scottish Amicable European offers an investment bond with long-term care built in. The value of the bond can be held under trust if the long-term care is not required.

To buy, or not to buy
Article Abstract:
It is not wise to consider purchasing property if you do not already have a reasonable sum of money saved. It may be better to continue renting, as property prices are unlikely to rise much in the near future. Furthermore, it is likely that interest rates will decline. Those who have not saved at least 5% to 10% of the purchase price of the property they wish to buy will find that their choice of mortgage lender is limited. This means that the mortgage they obtain may not be exactly what they want.
