Airline cutbacks still grounded
Article Abstract:
British Airways has recently reported very strong financial performance, both within its own operations and at European partners TAT and Deutsche BA. However, many other European airlines are still in difficulties and rely heavily on state support. A few partnership deals have been reached, but little real progress has been made towards wide-reaching restructuring of the industry. Some observers now believe that state-controlled airlines must be scaled down before the European airline industry can be really liberalised.

However, it is now to receive investment of 200 million pounds sterling, becoming the focus of the company's engine development work.
