All about Eve and evolution
Article Abstract:
Geneticists in the mid-80's analysed samples of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) from various ethnic groups and concluded that people alive today are descended from an African woman, dubbed Mitochondiral Eve, who lived around 200,000 years ago. MtDNA is inherited only down the maternal line. Recent work by Alan Templeton from Washington University, MO has challenged this even though the data used is virtually the same. However, others support the original Mitochondrial Eve hypothesis including Maryellen Ruvolo of Harvard who believes Eve lived between 200,000 and 400,000 years ago.
