Italian's pledge to promote photographer pays off
Article Abstract:
Varvara Lavrentiev, daughter of Russian Alexander Rodchenko (1891-1956) gave some of his photographs to Caio Garrubba, an Italian photographer, in 1965 to make him better known in the west. Rodchenko was a suppressed avant-garde artist, designer and photographer. Some of these photographs were sold in Oct 1992 at a Christie's sale for 892,320 pounds sterling, but Mrs Lavrentiev had intended to lend the photos for exhibition and publication. There is no documentation to prove the transaction.
