An exile from the modern world
Article Abstract:
Pianist Andras Schiff expresses nostalgia for times which he only knows from description. He feels out of place in the modern musical world, which he sees as having very little sense of quality. He emphasizes that good music can only ever have a very small audience. He regards music as a total dedication, rather than a job or a profession. He is becoming increasingly attracted to Robert Schumann, who may be the subject of his next film.

A new string to Maxim's bow
Article Abstract:
Violinist Maxim Vengerov recalls that he always believed that he would conduct one day. However, he is surprised to have been given the opportunity to do so at the age of only 25. He has been feeling the need to share his music in new ways, and feels that conducting is not really very different from playing. However, he is aware that there are dangers associated with making the transition from playing to conducting.
