And man became God
Article Abstract:
The recent announcement that Japanese and British scientists are working on a hi-tech tank in which a foetus can develop, thus eliminating the need for a human womb, has highlighted how far scientific advances have progressed beyond existing social and moral codes. The creation, preservation and termination of human life raises very difficult ethical issues, and scientific developments are constantly presenting new challenges. Liberal society wants women to be able to have babies, but cannot yet deal with the dilemmas which result.

An industry gone on holiday
Article Abstract:
The decision by heritage secretary Virginia Bottomley not to renew the part-time contract of Adele Biss, director of the British Tourist Association and the English Travel Board, is a regrettable one. Biss has played a key role in the tourist industry over recent years, and has not hesitated to criticise the lack of government funding for tourism. The UK continues to attract many foreign visitors, and tourism is a key element of the economy. However, the industry is still run in a haphazard and amateurish way.

The teenies vote for snog 'n' run
Article Abstract:
The history of all-female pop groups has been very mixed. Some female groups were successful in the 1960s, but after that there were almost none at all until Madonna, who popularised a number of different musical styles. The music press tended to ignore any all-female groups which did emerge, and it was almost impossible for them to be successful. This has not been the case for the Spice Girls, an all-female group which has been extremely successful. However, this group cannot really be taken seriously.
