Billion dollar brains behind the Net

Article Abstract:

Venture capital firms are attracting very strong interest from potential backers of Internet-related companies. Such companies have until recently struggled to raise funds, but venture capital firms are now able to choose between potential backers. Venture capital funds invested $1.84 billion in Silicon Valley in the first quarter of 1999, more than triple the $501 million invested in the year-earlier period. Some observers predict that investment in Internet-related companies will eventually slump, but others anticipate a 5% rise in investment in 2000 and every year for the next five-10 years.

HIV is rising at an alarming rate. Is it because a new generation is turning its back on safe sex?

Article Abstract:

There has been a significant rise in the rate of HIV infection across the US, partly as a result of young gay men rejecting the concept of safe sex. Aids experts anticipate that around 2.2% of the uninfected gay population will contract HIV in 2001, from 1.04% in 1997.
