Birmingham offers a modern definition of social injustice
Article Abstract:
The Social Justice Commission, founded by the Labour Party, have looked at England's second city, Birmingham, to find these injustices and their solutions. The 16-member commission is to establish a new vision for the UK but they are still deciding on the questions before seeking the answers. The three key areas under consideration are the family, the workplace and the state. Four commissioners have been to Newtown, a council area with 27 tower blocks where muggings and rapes are rife. Unemployment stands at 35%, single parent families are three time the national average and two in every three are completely unqualified.

Prosecution raises spectre of conspiracy
Article Abstract:
In the course of duty the Customs and Excise department brought charges against three men they had discovered illegally exporting equipment. In 1990 they suspected several companies of supplying Iraq with machine tools. Customs officers agreed to consult ministers before taking action. Matrix Churchill's managing director Paul Henderson had been an MI6 informer, but once he became dispensable, ministers began refusing the company export licences.
