Blair voted the leading European
Article Abstract:
A survey of more than 200 politicians, government ministers, trade unionists, industrialists, academics, economists and leading cultural figures from the 15 European Union countries indicates that UK Prime Minister Tony Blair is regarded as the most important person in Europe. Some observers believe that this is because Blair is seen as a counterbalance to those who seek rapid European political integration. Blair was ranked ahead of Wim Duisenberg, head of the new European Central Bank, and German Chancellor Gerhard Schroder.

Greek quake death toll rises past 60
Article Abstract:
It is now known that more than 60 people were killed in the earthquake that hit Athens, Greece, on Sep 7, 1999. There has been extensive damage to older buildings in the Menidi industrial district north-east of the city, but most buildings built after 1981, when strict building regulations were introduced following a severe earthquake, remain standing. Most of the dead and missing were trapped in old factories. Many of the survivors are now sleeping outside because they fear further shocks.
