The US has only very recently begun to realize that the world economy could be facing recession. For this reason, the blame for failing to take action sooner is likely to be placed with officialdom in the form of central bankers, regulators and G7 finance ministers. This should not disguise the fact that experts failed to exercise proper judgement and made serious mistakes. The world's banks are beginning to realize that they were seriously misguided, and this could lead to a loss of confidence in the banking system as a whole.
