The bottle stopper tree
Article Abstract:
Cultivation of the cork oak tree has declined to 2.4 million hectares world wide, with one million hectares being in Spain and Portugal. The tree is an indicator of the health of the ecology since many other plants rely on it for shade an nutrients. The bark is harvested and made into stoppers for bottles, but requires 20 to 30 years to regrow. The cork oak is threatened by the market for eucalyptus which grows more quickly and is more profitable than cork. Modern agricultural methods also threaten the cork oak.

Car hire
Article Abstract:
The UK car rental industry, which consists of 35% private and 65% corporate, was worth 680 million pounds sterling in 1998. Light commercial vehicle and minibus hire accounts for 13% of the total market with an estimated 240,000 vehicles. Ford represents 24% of this total, which remains to be the most common car marque. Following recent mergers, five companies currently hold 65% of the market. Considering a 'soft landing' for the UK economy, the short-term prospects for the market is for moderate growth.
