China's new rich want political reform
Article Abstract:
The reform process that began in China in 1978 has had a very significant impact on the lives of ordinary Chinese. However, the country's economy is now slowing down and there are still structural reforms to be undertaken. There are still traces of the command economy, but these cannot be eliminated because of widespread corruption. It remains uncertain whether the next economic reforms can be undertaken without parallel political changes. There are many ways in which human rights have improved since 1978, but it is still not possible to question the Communist Party's hold on power.

Me-generation on the rise in China
Article Abstract:
Students in China have changed since the time of the Tiananmen Square massacre, Beijing, in 1989, and they have become more personally ambitious. They have also received more messages about patriotism and the need to be suspicious of western countries, and have benefited from economic growth and greater freedom. Former activists who sought to promote democracy may feel betrayed. The annivaersary of the massacre has become less important since the bombing by Nato of the Chinese embassy in Yugoslavia.

Chinese leaders are sued over the massacre
Article Abstract:
The families of some of those who died in the massacre at Tiananmen Square, Beijing, China, are taking legal action against those who were in power at that time in China. Human Rights in China is an organization based in New York, which will reveal details of the legal action in Chinese courts, which has little chance of success. The organization has also pledged that it will pursue the action in international courts. A list of 155 victims who died, and 65 injured has been compiled by the families.
