Clowns can't sell to Swedes of Germans
Article Abstract:
British advertising agencies attempt to define a European consumer for using the same advertisement across Europe. Euro RSCG, the French-owned largest advertising agency in Europe, employs many cross-border advertising campaigns. Eighty-one per cent of marketing directors of brands sold across Europe aim to standardise their advertising to save costs. However, national syles vary and the Henley Centre, a research and forecasting company, cannot find much evidence of a European consumer.

Can Dimbleby kebab John Major?
Article Abstract:
ITV's new current affairs programme, to be hosted by Jonathan Dimbleby, is designed to be more structured than BBC's 'Question Time.' It will feature top politicians who will face a structured interview and then public questioning which is likely to be aggressive and relentless. ITV believes that the programme will revive many people's interest in politics if works well, especially as ordinary people tend to ask tougher questions than interviewers.

The watchdog's bark is worse than its bite
Article Abstract:
The Independent Television Commission (ITC) received 3,504 complaints about advertisements in 1992 compared to 2,400 from 1987-1991. Monthly reports publicise the complaints and ITC action. The most complaints in 1992 were about Claire Rayner's Vespre sanitary towel advertisement which has been withdrawn. Over 100 advertisements have been banned since Jan 1991, mostly because they were misleading. Most advertising agencies feel ITC is fair.
