You can forget Hague - he's just preparing the ground for Portillo
Article Abstract:
There are indications that UK Conservative party leader William Hague may merely be preparing the ground for Michael Portillo. The views expressed by Hague are in many ways supported by Portillo, but Portillo seems to present these views with much more determination than Hague. Portillo believes that the UK should reduce taxation to US or Japanese levels, a move which would require considerable reform of the public sector. In effect, he is advocating the removal of state protection for the weak and the poor.

Condon should go, but there are worse demons still to be exorcised
Article Abstract:
Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Paul Condon did a great deal to improve awareness of race relations, but he still seems unable to understand that the Metropolitan Police consistently regards black people has being more likely to commit crime than white people. Institutional racism in the Metropolitan Police is not, as Condon seems to think, deep-seated discrimination by managers, but is this prior judgement of black people. Condon's inability to recognize pernicious racism means that he should resign.
