Confessions of a tower block fan
Article Abstract:
In 1968 a gas explosion occurred in Ronan Point, a 22-storey tower block in Newham, East London, and a corner of the building collapsed killing five. It was rebuilt and the residents brought back but an inspection 10 years later revealed more danger and everyone was rehoused. Subsequently Ronan Point and its seven identical block companions were demolished and over 300 houses and flats have been erected on the site. There are still many high rise blocks in the area but no more are being built. People are tending more to buy their homes although many lifetime residents of the area complain that home ownership has meant the scattering of their families.

Trading places with Mr Patten
Article Abstract:
Sophisticated expatriates returning to the UK cannot believe the low house prices of 1992. They like London or properties within commuting distance of London. They tend to prefer a house and garden after living in flats abroad but need something renovated or new as they may be moving away again within a short time. Bath, England is popular for its style, career opportunites and lower prices than the Home Counties.
