Cooking up a TV winner
Article Abstract:
The most successful television programmes are those which combine human interest, consumer information and challenge and competition, according to Peter Bazalgette, founder of Bazal Productions. His company is responsible for some of the most popular television programmes in the UK at present, including 'Changing Rooms' and 'Ready Steady Cook.' He regards these programmes as instant entertainment, and does feel that lightweight lifestyle television programmes need to be excused at all. He believes that lifestyle programmes have become so popular because people now tend to define themselves by their consumer behaviour.

TV's classic shows are missing
Article Abstract:
The UK National Film Theatre has drawn up a list of 20 classic television programmes from the 1950s and 1960s which have been lost by the BBC and ITV. An amnesty has now been declared to encourage people who may have illegally recorded these programmes to return them. Some other programmes not on the list have already been discovered, some handed in by producers and others who worked on them and some discovered by members of the public.
