Delight and disaster in an African diary
Article Abstract:
There are many foreign aid projects in Africa which bring great benefit to both animals and human beings. However, it is common for projects to conflict with each other and for their beneficial effects to therefore be eliminated. In Tanzania, for example, foreign aid has financed the Madibira rice field project. This has involved diverting water from the Ruaha river, which is now at dangerously low levels. The decline in the volume of water in the river has also had a negative impact on the Mtera and Kidatu hydroelectric dams, which provide 80% of electricity needs in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
