Work needs to be done on company tax
Article Abstract:
Companies expect the next parliament to consider company taxation. The Confederation of British Industry will demand a return of investment incentives. A Labour government would probably increase the corporation tax rate to pay for this. The classical method of company taxation operates in the US, Japan and the Netherlands. Britain, Germany, France and Italy use the imputed system, which encourages profits distribution. The fashionable view is to discourage companies to pay dividends if they cannot afford them.

Expect the world to follow the MPC's lead
Article Abstract:
The Bank of England Monetary Policy Committee's decision to raise interest rates can be seen as an indication that monetary policy will begin to tighten on a global level. It is becoming increasingly clear that the world will probably need higher interest rates to control economic growth in 2000. Monetary tightening will be seen first in the UK and the US, but interest rates will also rise in Europe. Dollar rates may begin to ease as US economic growth slows down, but possibly not until well into 2000.
