Eidos signs up Michael Owen

Eidos, the UK based computer game group, has announced its results for the second quarter to 30 June 1998. The company has confirmed that it is interested in acquisitions and that it is planning to launch Tomb Raider 3 at Christmas 1998. The company has also confirmed that it has signed up Michael Owen, the teenage Liverpool football star, to promote its football games. The deal is said to be worth hundreds of thousands of pounds and will last for several years. The first product that Owen will be used to promote is its new version of World League Soccer that is expected to be available by Christmas 1998. UK: EMI DEFENDS HUGE MANAGEMENT PAYOUTS

Directors of UK music business, EMI, received GB[pound] 6n in payouts when they left the company in 1999. EMI paid then director, Ken Berry, GB[pound] 3.3mn - GB[pound] 1.8mn in salary and GB[pound] 1.2mn in incentives. He also received GB[pound] 1.1mn in shares. A similar payment was made to Martin Bandier. EMI has said that it believes in offering an attractive package to top managers in order to retain and motivate them. Computer games company, Eidos, practised a similar policy, but insisted on paying its directors a GB[pound] 4mn bonus even when the company reported a profits warning.
