Einar Englund
Article Abstract:
Composer, pianist and teacher Einar Englund showed talent as a pianist from an early age. He entered the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland, at the age of 17, and gained his diploma in 1941. He was called up into active service, and subsequently broke a finger, thus preventing him establishing a career as a concert pianist. His First Symphony was composed in 1946, followed by the Second Symphony in 1947. The 1955 First Piano Concerto became his best-known work.
