Evil only survives because we walk away from its horror
Article Abstract:
The horror of war cannot be denied, but there are times when it is necessary to use force to defeat evil. It is understandable that some people feel that no action should be taken to prevent evil continuing, possibly because this would not serve any national interest or because there is a danger of catastrophic long-term consequences from intervention. However, it can also be argued that there is no real excuse for walking away from evil in situations where it is possible to intervene.

Stalin's heirs are still at work in the Caucasus
Article Abstract:
Reports from Chechnya, Russia, of large numbers of Russian troops advancing and many civilians dying in rocket attacks show that the widespread use of terror against civilians, strongly associated with the Stalin era, has not disappeared in the Caucasus. Russian President Boris Yeltsin's generals are ruthless in their actions against the Chechen people, highlighting their links with policies of Stalinism. The West is not criticizing Yeltsin because he was an ally in Kosovo, Yugoslavia.

Expensive talk will not stop the spread of racism
Article Abstract:
South Africa is meeting around 80% of the cost of the United Nations Session on Racism, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance, which is taking place in Durban. This is a terrible waste of money for country with so many problems. The money being spent on this conference should be given to anti-racism organizations.
