Fear of change drives Austrian voters back into cocoon
Article Abstract:
Austrians are gradually beginning to accept that the country must align itself with developments in neighbouring countries, especially as Austria is now a member of the European Union. However, some fear the impact of these changes, and this has led to strong support for the far right Freedom Party (FPO). This party is critical of foreigners, the Social Democrats (SPO) and the People's Party (OVP). It claims to represent ordinary people, and promises to break the monopoly on power held by the SPO and OVP.

The Hungarian economy is currently in a state of crisis, with the essential process of privatisation having encountered many difficulties.
