Film censor allows a chink of light behind the veil
Article Abstract:
There are indications that the Iranian film industry is gradually being released from the heavy burden of censorship under which it has traditionally operated. The film 'The Snowman,' which shows an Iranian man cross-dressing in the hope of marrying an American and being allowed to live in the US, has attracted large audiences. The Islamic guidance ministry has also given Tahmineh Milani permission to make a film entitled 'Two Women,' which presents the message that social injustice continued after the revolution.

Lebanese recoil as the demons of their history are unearthed
Article Abstract:
The destruction caused by the civil war in Beirut is allowing archaeologists to uncover many treasures from different periods of the city's history. The need to rebuild a modern city will eventually mean that ancient streets and houses are buried again, but at the moment archaeologists are uncovering remains up to 2,000 years old. Lebanese people themselves are wary of uncovering the past, seeing it as being violent and bloody, so the work is being undertaken by Lebanese archaeologists with Syrian site workers.
