Foreign affairs put Clinton to test
Article Abstract:
US parliamentary candidate Bill Clinton intends to keep the bipartisan consensus on foreign policy and endorsed the North American Freee Trade Area. He plans to appoint a special envoy to Northern Ireland. His human rights policy is more assertive, especially towards China. The post-Soviet world situation means US troops in Europe could be reduced from 150,000 to 100,000 and Europe would have to pay more for security. Clinton would pay more attention to the United Nations and global problems such as the environment.

Media millions add zest to dull Republican race
Article Abstract:
Steve Forbes, the heir to the Forbes magazine empire who is seeking the Republican party's nomination as presidential candidate, has very little political experience. However, he is now running in second place behind Senator Bob Dole, moving ahead of more obvious challengers such as Phil Gramm and Lamar Alexander. This is because he is making extensive use of the media. He has invested in a very high-profile advertising campaign in all early-primary states, and has particularly targeted Bob Dole.
