My time in a resettlement centre
Article Abstract:

Article Abstract:
The UK government's White Paper setting out fairer and firmer ways of dealing with asylum-seekers is to a certain extent to be welcomed. This is particularly the case with measures to open up the process to the public and to make more information available about developments in countries where there is unrest. However, other policies in the White Paper can be interpreted as a continuation of the negative approach to asylum-seekers adopted under the previous Conservative administration. Too many asylum-seekers are still being detained, and regulations regarding financial support are too complex.

Forget all these noble speeches: let's see some signs of change
Article Abstract:
Black and Asian Britons have come to expect indifference and even racism and brutality from police officers. A number of high-profile cases in which the police have failed to properly investigate crimes against blacks and Asians have served to highlight this problem. There will always be racist or ineffective police officers, as they merely reflect the community as a whole, and genuine errors will inevitably happen. However, efforts by police chiefs to disguise or deny the truth cannot be justified.
