German pact in danger as Greens rebel on Kosovo
Article Abstract:
The fact that Germany has been the focus of diplomatic efforts to end the conflict in Kosovo, Yugoslavia, has placed great pressure on the coalition government of Social Democrats and Greens. It seems increasingly likely that Green party leader and Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer will be forced by members of his party to oppose Nato and sue immediately for peace. If this happens, Chancellor Gerhard Schroder would not be able to avoid expelling the Greens from the cabinet and thus putting an end to the coalition.
