Article Abstract:
The fact that the State Opera House in Vienna, Austria, has operated well within its budget for a number of years is proving a negative factor as doubts are raised about the artistic quality of its performances. Many leading singers no longer appear there because director Ioan Holaender refuses to pay fees which he regards as too high, while other singers have objected to the uneven casting. The policy of paying only one top fee each evening has certainly helped to reduce costs, but has had a negative impact on the quality of performances.

How to succeed in exams: all you really need to know
Article Abstract:
There is no guaranteed way of ensuring exam success, and methods that may work for some people may not be effective for others. However, there are some general factors that seem closely linked with success. It is worth making a detailed revision plan, as this breaks down the work to be done into small, manageable units. Writing out plans for exam answers and doing timed exam questions have both been shown to be effective approaches. It is generally advisable to have a series of intensive study periods followed by a short break.

Sky divers need not apply
Article Abstract:
A CV which shows a wide range of personal skills and academic abilities is most likely to be attractive to a potential employer. Particular attention is given to applicants who have held positions of responsibility and participate in team-related or social activities, rather than lone pursuits. However, it is wise not to include on a CV any activities which could be regarded as too adventurous, such as parachuting, as these could deter a potential employer.
