Guilt by association
Article Abstract:
The Hayward Gallery's 'Art and Power' exhibition looks at art under the European dictators in the period 1930-1945. One of the key themes is that the dictators of this time were able to harness the power of mass communication. They used art to appeal to popular sentiment, attempting to ensure that the viewer felt only exultation. The exhibition inevitably touches on the sensitive issue of the relationship between art and politics.

Bring me your young, your disenchanted
Article Abstract:
Efforts made in the past to encourage young people to vote have focused on a particular political party. This is not the case with the Rock the Vote campaign, which is careful to emphasise that it is not aligned with any one party. It is using popular comedians and pop musicians to encourage young people to register to vote and to become more involved in politics.
