Article Abstract:
The concept of the individual is extremely important in the US, according to songwriter FM Cornog, who founded East River Pipe. He feels that most Americans cannot understand the idea of the collective whole. The inspiration for the songs on East River Pipe's new album, 'The Gasoline Age,' came from travelling on Route 22, close to where he now lives in New Jersey. He believes that the key dilemma in the US is that there is a great deal of wealth, but a lack of real soul.

All the news that's fit to sing
Article Abstract:
Singer-songwriter Loudon Wainwright III acknowledges that he has been very influenced by Bob Dylan. However, he does not regard his work as particularly Dylanesque. He feels that there is no mystery to his songs, in contrast with Dylan's cryptic songwriting. He believes that he is also strongly influenced by Tom Lehrer, and is seeking to revive the topical song format. A lot of his work is personal and autobiographical.
