Hanging's too good for them
Article Abstract:
Philadelphia's Eastern State Penitentiary, which is now in a state of disrepair, is housing an unusual art show entitled 'Prison Sentences - The Prison as Site, the Prison as Subject.' It includes an exhibit in which the visitor is shut alone in a cell for four minutes and one in which a whole wing of the prison is engulfed in music, poetry, dialogue and theatrical re-enactments in different languages. One of the main aims of the show is to highlight the contrast between codes of punishment in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Knowing me, knowing you
Article Abstract:
The fashionable Barneys department store in Manhattan, New York, prides itself on not having a conventional Christmas window display. For Christmas 1996, its window display includes a live element, with Freudian psychoanalyst David Rakoff interviewing clients in full view of passers-by. Rakoff, an amateur therapist, makes the scene more interesting by dressing like a 1930s psychoanalyst. He believes that Christmas presents are a non-violent form of assassination.
