Herbert Haslegrave
Article Abstract:
University administrator and engineer Herbert Haslegrave was an engineering apprentice at English Electric Co between 1918 and 1923. During this time, he also studied part time at Bradford Technical College, gaining a first class honours external London degree. He gained a Whitworth Scholarship, and obtained a First in the Mechanical Engineering Tripos at Trinity College, Cambridge, England. He became a lecturer at various colleges, and in 1947 was appointed principal of Leicester College of Technology. He was appointed principal of Loughborough College of Technology in 1953.

Billie Stephens
Article Abstract:
Naval officer and businessman William Stephens joined the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve in 1930, and joined the coastal forces at the outbreak of the second world war. He became one of the few naval officers to escape from Colditz, having already shown skill and bravery during his war service. He took up the family business in Northern Ireland after the war, and later became chairman of Northern Bank and the Northern Ireland Tourist Board.
