How Mr and Mrs Average took on the council social workers and won
Article Abstract:
Many ordinary Britons strongly supported Jeff and Jenny Bramley, who went into hiding for four months in autumn 1998 after being told by social workers that they would not be permitted to keep their foster children, Jade and Hannah Bennett. The reasons why social workers believed that the Bramleys were not suitable to be foster parents were not revealed. A court has now ruled that the Bramleys will be allowed to keep the girls. Childcare professionals fear that this ruling will encourage other foster parents to follow the Bramleys' example.

'Every day he said he loved me.'
Article Abstract:
The UK's first dedicated domestic violence court has begun operating in Leeds, England. Many of the women who bring cases to this court decide to drop the charges before the case is actually heard, but the court still serves to focus attention on domestic violence. Supporters of the court, including the Crime Prosecution Service and Leeds magistrates, hope that it will stop so many battered women failing to receive justice.
