Indonesia goes to historic free polls
Article Abstract:
Indonesia will become the third-largest democracy in the world as free elections are held on Jun 7, 1999. Voters will be able to choose from 48 parties, making the election a very complex process. There has been great tension in Indonesia in recent months, but the three-week campaign in the run-up to the elections has been surprisingly peaceful. The outcome of the elections will prove the real test of the shift towards democracy in Indonesia.
