Jean Marais
Article Abstract:
Actor, painter and ceramicist Jean Marais was determined to become an actor from an early age. He gained many first prizes at the Gala de l'Union des Artistes, where actors performed circus tricks, and always performed all his film stunts himself. His career was closely associated with director Jean Cocteau, having first come to Cocteau's attention through a non-speaking part in the 1937 play 'Oedipe Roi.' He appeared in a number of Cocteau's most striking theatrical works, including the 1937 production 'Les Chevaliers de la Table Ronde.'
