Kinnock team is rewarded with dejection
Article Abstract:
The scene at Labour Party headquarters at 150 Walworth Road, London was one of utter dejection in the early morning following the UK general election on April 9, 1992 when it was realised Labour had lost. This result was very unexpected as Labour had been forecast to win albeit without an overall majority. The first ominous sign for Labour was when Basildon, Essex was retained by the Conservatives, a seat declaring early and number 33 on the list of marginal seats labour needed to win. Leader Neil Kinnock made a brave and defiant speech, warning of the likely worsening of the country's situation under the Conservatives.

He says the party must support the poor but not be noted simply for providing benefits. He will establish a Commission on Social Justice.
