Man of the Millennium
Article Abstract:
Charles Darwin had failed in his bid to be a medical student when he traveled on the Beagle in 1831, when he was 22-years-old. He noted differences between humans as well as between animal species, and pondered his observations on his return to England, where he had to stay at home due to ill health. He developed his ideas on gradual change leading to new species, and they are still accepted, though not always understood. Richard Dawkins, who publicises Darwin's ideas, argues that mutuations may arise by chance, but selection is not a chance process.

Science and history solve mystery of the cancer clusters
Article Abstract:
Sir Richard Doll, the world's leading cancer specialist, is supporting the view of epidemiologist Professor Leo Kinlen that childhood leukaemia could be caused by an unknown infection, possibly a virus. Kinlen believes that cases of childhood leukaemia can be unusually high in places where there is large-scale population mixing. This happened in Seascale, England, the village closest to the Sellafield nuclear reprocessing plant.
