Managers of funds scramble to find suitors
Article Abstract:
The recent purchase by German bank Commerzbank of UK fund manager Jupiter Tyndall is unlikely to be the last in the fund management sector. Many UK fund managers are now looking for potential purchasers as strong competition forces increased concentration in the financial services industry as a whole. There are now likely to be many changes in ownership, especially when the large life and composite insurers start looking at moving into asset management.

Lloyds steps up battle for high-street dominance
Article Abstract:
The planned merger of Lloyds Bank and TSB would have a very significant impact on the future of retail banking in the UK. The combined operation would have more than 3,000 branches and 85,000 employees, but it is likely that branches will be shut and jobs shed. Only the largest operations will be able to survive in the increasingly competitive retail banking industry, according to Sir Brian Pitman, chief executive of Lloyds Bank.
