What chance of a common goal when the match is off?
Article Abstract:
The political situation in Northern Ireland seems to have become less tense following the Good Friday Peace Agreement. However, there are signs that the politics of fear continue to rule in Northern Ireland. This has been reflected recently in Sinn Fein intimidation which led to a football team based in Catholic west Belfast, Northern Ireland, abandoning plans to play a match against the Royal Ulster Constabulary. There is still much cynicism within the divided communities, with few signs of real reconciliation.

If you preach liberty, don't ignore atrocities in Freetown
Article Abstract:
There has been extreme violence in Freetown, Sierra Leone, leading to many deaths and large numbers of people becoming displaced. In the UK, concerns about Sierra Leone have focused on the Sandline scandal, involving the supply of weapons, rather than on the suffering being faced by ordinary people there. Foreign Secretary Robin Cook has announced additional aid to Sierra Leone, and has emphasized that combatting violence must be the priority. However, this has not been taken up by the Foreign Affairs select committee investigating Sandline or by the Conservative opposition.
