Moonies build a new Garden of Eden in Brazil's fertile cowboy country
Article Abstract:
Rev Sun Myung Moon, founder of the Unification Church, has lived mainly in the US since the 1970s. However, he feels that there is no longer any potential to expand his church in the US, and is instead looking to Latin America. He has established a presence in Argentina and Uruguay, and is now constructing a mini-country with more than 30 theme cities in the area around the remote township of Jardim, Brazil. The church is purchasing 200,000 acres of farmland at around $500 an acre from local farmers.

She has appeared on television and played the Cuban and American anthems in various churches, and is regarded by Cuban-Americans as a heroine. Reports indicate that conditions at the camps are very poor, and some refugees have even decided to return to Cuba.
