Need a seat? Try asking for it
Article Abstract:
The recent case of a pregnant woman who complained to a train operator because nobody offered her a seat on a crowded rush-hour train highlights the fact that UK society has become uncertain about the rules of courtesy. Many women now regard traditional courtesies, such as men holding doors open for them, as patronizing, so men are unwilling to perform them for fear of a negative response. Through confusion and neglect, traditional courtesies have been abandoned. In some cases, this has led to extremely ignorant behaviour. It can no longer be automatically assumed that people will be courteous spontaneously, but they may show courtesy if requested.

The forgotten princess
Article Abstract:
Diana, Princess of Wales, died in 1998, and there is little tangible with which the British can remember her. There is an island on the estate of her family with an exhibition inside, and a coin uses her image. Her sons are not able to visit her grave since their father has not been invited. Her brother did not appear to have compassion in the treatment of his own wife, and this behavior makes Diana's former husband, Charles, Prince of Wales, appear more sympathetic. Diana was evidence that people could have unhappy, chaotic lives, despite having privileges and money.
