It was extremely difficult to obtain fresh food in Poland during the Communist era, and many restaurants served only drinks. However, a wide range of ingredients is now available in Poland, and this has sparked off considerable interest in cookery. Similarly, many Poles are now eating in restaurants. Maciej Kuron, the country's first celebrity chef, has a weekly television show and has published a cookbook series. He hopes that Polish cuisine will now begin to experience a revival.
