Penalty of a dodgy relationship
Article Abstract:
UK Prime Minister Tony Blair was able to use a positive relationship with media magnate Rupert Murdoch to his advantage in the run-up to the Labour party's general election victory in May 1997. However, since then Blair's relationship with Murdoch has caused him problems. He is reluctant to alienate The Sun newspaper, and his relationship with Murdoch has also prompted great resentment among senior ministers. Additional complications have arisen with Murdoch's plans to purchase Manchester United football club.

Supping with the devil
Article Abstract:
Media businessman Rupert Murdoch has gained a reputation for being rather unpredictable in his political alliances. Over the last 15 years, he has been very critical of the Labour party, but he has recently been seeking to establish a rapport with Labour party leader Tony Blair. The party clearly cannot afford to alienate someone who controls newspaper which sell over five million copies a day, while Murdoch may be looking to gain the support of a potential future prime minister.
