Farmers accused of abusing clean-up scheme

Some farmers have repaired buildings or bought new machinery with funds intended to be used for cleaning and disinfecting following the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease, according to the UK Dept for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. The clean-up process has now been suspended while an investigation takes place.

Pity the farmers, but don't give them another penny in subsidies
Article Abstract:
The large subsidies received by British farmers are examined in detail. 37 farmers whose farms were infected by foot and mouth disease have received compensation of over one million pounds sterling each. The government must reduce the subsidies paid to the agriculture industry.
