PowerGen boss wants a rethink on competition
Article Abstract:
The UK government should urgently reconsider its energy policy. It is right to insist that the electricity industry moves to deregulation by Apr 1, 1998, but should be aware that this alone will not bring true consumer choice. In the majority of cases, consumers will simply remain with their existing local monopoly electricity supplier. It would be better to establish a system in which five or six strong suppliers operate alongside a number of smaller competitors.
