Quietly, the unions flex their muscles
Article Abstract:
The UK is not set to see a sudden outbreak of trade union militancy, but the unions are nevertheless making preparations for the possibility of a Labour government in 1997. Union leaders are optimistic about the future, feeling that they are starting to establish warmer links with the Labour party, even though there is no possibility of them having a direct influence over the party's economic policies. They are also aware that taking on too high a profile would damage Labour's election chances.

Don't work for us, urges BA's least favourite executive
Article Abstract:

He believes that cost-cutting and improved efficiency are vital if British Airways is to be able to stand up to growing competition created by deregulation.
