Critics blamed for turning the young off theatre

Efforts by theatre practitioners in the UK to encourage young people to attend performances more regularly are discussed. Director Deborah Warner believes that theatre critics, who are sometimes reactionary, can discourage interest in the theatre among young people.

Regional theatres given 25m pounds sterling boost for new talent
Article Abstract:
The UK Arts Council has announced that 190 regional theatres will share additional funding of 25 million pounds sterling in 2002 to 2003 and 2003 to 2004. Some 4.3 million pounds sterling will be shared by 85 touring companies.

West End faces crisis as theatre audiences fall
Article Abstract:
The Society of London Theatre is to launch a national marketing campaign to try to reverse the slump in theatre audiences since the terrorist attacks in the US. Theatres rely heavily on foreign visitors, but there have been far fewer since the attacks because many people are unwilling to fly.
