Police chief accuses UDA over killing 3 Catholics
Article Abstract:
Those involved in the multi-party talks on the future of Northern Ireland face considerable difficulties following claims by Royal Ulster Constabulary Chief Constable Ronnie Flanagan that the Ulster Defence Association (UDA) was responsible for the murder of three Catholics. It is possible that moves will now be made to expel the political wing of the UDA, the Ulster Democratic party (UDP), from the talks. Some observers believe that the UDP should be allowed to continue to participate in the talks, as it may be able to influence the UDA.

A happy ending for Ulster
Article Abstract:
It now seems possible that there could be peace in Northern Ireland in the foreseeable future, even though there are still many obstacles to overcome. It seems that both the loyalists and the IRA have recognized that prolonging the armed conflict will not advance their cause, and there is considerable support for the peace process on both sides. It is now accepted that it is necessary to negotiate a deal which will ensure that high levels of violence do not return to Northern Ireland.
