Visitors to Lisbon, Portugal, which is undergoing a revamp in anticipation of Expo 1998, an international exhibition, should see the city on foot. Attractions include enjoying the smell of barbecued sardines, looking at views, particularly from the castle of Sao Jorge, taking a cable car, and architecture. Eating places recommended include a working man's cafe, Nossa Churrasqueira, and the Marisqueria restaurant. The Algarve and the Estremaduran coast are also Portuguese tourist areas, though not many foreigners visit Estremadura.

It is possible to travel to Lisbon, Portugal, relatively cheaply and to find attractive accommodation at reasonable prices on arrival. Using public transport will allow the visitor to view the entire city for almost no expenditure at all. Tourist attractions include Jeronimos monastery and the Torre de Belem, both beautiful Manueline buildings, and the Castle. Interesting local cuisine includes custard pies known as pasteis and dried, salted cod known as bacalhau.

The Water of Leith, a river circling the centre of Edinburgh, Scotland, remains largely unknown. However, it is worth taking the time to walk along its banks, gaining a fascinating insight into Edinburgh's varied history. Attractions along the route include Warriston Cemetery, the Royal Botanic Gardens, Dean Gallery and Craiglockart Dell. There are significant contrasts between the various areas through which the Water of Leith passes.
